Event description

Description

This is a social event which the ITI French Network is happy to open to other ITI networks. Our guide will be Jordan Lancaster, our translator colleague (Italian, Spanish, French > English). She will take us through various points of interest – St Nicholas Parish Church, the Dove Pub on the Thames path, Hogarth’s House and the gardens of Chiswick House, where we can enjoy afternoon tea (we shall sit together but pay individually).

Chiswick House is a great example of 18th-century British architecture. Lord Burlington, who designed this Palladian villa, drew inspiration from his Grand Tours of Italy.

The Gardens are known as the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement and have inspired countless designed landscapes from Blenheim Palace in Oxford to Central Park in New York. They were originally created by Lord Burlington and William Kent in the 1720s and 1730s as a setting for Lord Burlington’s Chiswick House.
