Chocolate Tempering Methods 

The science behind chocolate tempering can at times be overwhelming however it is an essential component to being able to master chocolate. We’ll be exploring the process and the different techniques that can be used to effectively temper chocolate.

This workshop is part of our Chocolate Master Class Series, it can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a series of classes. Previous knowledge will not be necessary so it's a perfect introduction to the mechanics of working with chocolate, especially for any for any cake maker that wants to understand more about how chocolate works.

During the workshop you will:

  • Learn how to master 3 different tempering methods - slab tempering, seed tempering and our own hair dryer method.
  • By the end of the workshop you will be able to recognise and correct bloom and crystallisation errors. 
  • You should be able to identify ways to effectively manage your environment to achieve perfectly tempered chocolate.
  • You will make a variety of chocolate products, including bars, shells and crystallised couverture for you to take home and work with.
  • You will beautifully wrap your creations to take home and enjoy
  • Go home with recipes and your newly found chocolate knowledge

What do you take away with you?

Each participant will take home approximately 500g of your own chocolate as well as the recipes and technical worksheets to be able to make your own and perfect your skills at home.

This workshop takes place 11.30am - 1.30pm on the following Saturdays:
14th January 2017, 1st April 2017, 8th July 2017
Or join our evening classes 6.30pm - 8.30pm on the following Thursday evenings:
23rd February 2017, 21st September 2017

Who is this workshop suitable for? 

Perfect for chocolate lovers of all ages and abilities who want to learn more of the secrets to create their own gorgeous chocolates at home.
Please note that we recommend that children under 13 years accompanied by a full paying adult participant

Chocolate Master Class Series

Our Chocolate Master Class Series is a 15 course program that covers a whole range of techniques to enable any chocolate lover to fully master and understand how to work with our favorite food. This series of classes can be taken on their own as individual classes or can be taken as your own series. Introduction to Chocolate Making is the perfect starter to indulge in a chocolate making obsession, discover more about our Chocolate Master Class Series here and indulge in the most valuable lessons.

This workshop makes a great Chocolate Making Hen Party, Birthday Party or other special occasion, do get in touch with our team for more information.


Special Dietary Requirements:

It's really important to us that everyone has a wonderful experience chocolate making, which is why we want to enable every chocolate lover to be able to have a go being creative. We are able to offer most chocolate making activities with dairy free and gluten free ingredients as long as we know in advance. If you have an individual with a nut allergy we have to say that the environment can not be guaranteed as nut free, we do however limit the presence of nuts in our workshop as much as possible, we are also able to provide new and sterile equipment for individuals with highly sensitive nut allergies. Please ask individuals or the parent or guardian of an attendee to contact us at least 48 hours ahead of the workshop so we can discuss with them how best to cater for their needs and ensure they can take part fully and enjoy the results of all their hard work.

Visit our Cocoa House Chocolate Cafe and try our Afternoon Chocolate Tea or just drop in at our cocoa house for our own specially made York Cocoa House hot chocolate and explore chocolate's history in York.
