Event description
A guide buying your next dressage horse - how to spot potential high level horses without a six-figure budget!

About this Event

An afternoon with Anna Ross and her team sharing advice on choosing your next dressage horse. From assessing conformation and movement, to surviving the stress of vettings, Anna will guide you through the whole process, from searching to sold!

With answers to all the difficult questions including;

"How much horse is too much horse?" - finding the right match for you.

"When does a 'normal' trot become a 'big' trot?" - what to expect from a young horse.

"Will he make Grand Prix?" - how to look at a young, weak horse and spot the potential for stardom.

"What should be a deal-breaker in a vetting?" - What to look for, what to consider, and what to avoid at all costs!

We will be discussing buying horses both in the UK and abroad, from individuals and dealers, with practical advice on the positives, perils, and pitfalls! With advice on questions to ask your vendor so you can make the right decision for you.

Not sure what you should expect when trying three- and four-year-old dressage prospects? Our team will show a variety of young horses, from just-backed to competition-ready, revealing the signs to look out for to find a correctly and sympathetically-trained young star.

Feel daunted by the prospect of trying a horse? We'll demonstrate the best way to assess both young and established horses, with tips on what to do, and what not to do! We'll also offer advice on buying schoolmasters, and the realistic expectations for an older horse.

Vexed by vettings? We're here to help take the stress out of trot-ups, flexion tests, x-rays, and everything else, as well as explaining the differences to expect between a young or experienced prospect.

Buying "fresh from the field" and unbroken horses; subtle signs that give those vital clues in your potential purchase, and how to assess movement and gaits before the horse is under saddle.

We'll be using different horses to demonstrate the best ways to assess without stress!
