Event description

Description

The North West has seen great growth with the number of light festivals but these are predominantly delivered by visual arts teams and feature little choreography. This session will enable dance artists to diversify and widen their practice by giving them the opportunity to think about how they might innovatively choreograph light.

Mary Branson is a visual artist who specialises in working with various light forms including; digital projection, glowing ‘uv’ light, lanterns, candles, lit stained glass & neon structures. Branson has been fascinated with light and the potential of choreographing it, which has led her into a number of collaborations with choreographers. Her experience and passion for dancing-light has led her into creating her own dance film and she is about to embark on choreographing her first ‘dancing-light’ performance with a cast of 150 people.

Mary will share her practice and experience through case studies & practical tasks. You will leave this session motivated to consider how you could choreograph light.

This workshop will help you to:

- Diversify your practice as a dance artist

- Develop skills in applying for commissions

- Inspire your practice

We work to support dance industry professionals across the North West and while we don’t want to charge for these workshops we do ask for a donation if you’d like to attend.
