Event description
An evening with Chris Helme (Seahorses) Mark Morriss (Bluetones) and Nigel Clark (Dodgy).

About this Event

Stellar line-up featuring lead singers of The Bluetones, Dodgy and The Seahorses performing solo songs and hits from their bands’ back catalogues.

A night of Britpop nostalgia and brilliance all in one intimate venue.

Chris Helme

Rising to fame in the 1990s as frontman of indie band The Seahorses singer-songwriter Chris Helme is now producing acclaimed folk-infused tracks as a solo artist, including with a new album readying for release in early 2020.

His enviable back catalogue includes Britpop classics such as ‘Love is the Law’ and ‘Blinded by the Sun’ from his time with John Squires’ post-Stone Roses band, The Seahorses. But beyond these well-loved indie hits Helme has matured into a songwriter of regard for noir-tinged folk gems blistering with emotion.

Nigel Clark

An artist with a foot in the freedom loving 60’s sound of sun drenched West Coast USA and a foot in gritty, grey, political UK (“UKRip”), Nigel’s songwriting and vocals have delivered stories from the heady days of Indie pop (“Staying out for the Summer”; Lovebirds; Found you; In a room), a working class life (Making the most of), and the emotional truths of mid-life tribulations (Good Enough, Only a heartbeat)

Nigel Clark grew up in punk and troubled 70’s, listening to the radio, hating school, playing guitar, working in a record shop and joining bands from age 14.

Taking his songs and his band Dodgy to brighter lights, Dodgy began their musical career in West London 1988. With Lovebirds from The Dodgy Album being aired on GLR. Nigel is 5 Dodgy albums in - the latest album “What are we fighting for” (9/10 Soundblab). As a singer-songwriter and solo artist, Nigel focuses his melodic voice in fresh soul-searching songs, to create an emotional connection with the audience.

Mark Morriss

A singer songwriter who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. Mark fronted the four piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and 3 top ten albums, whilst touring the UK, Europe and Japan, before temporarily disbanding in 2011. Returning to The Bluetones to record their ‘A New Athens’ swan song, Mark re-focused his attention on his solo career. In 2013 he recorded ‘A Flash of Darkness’, raising the recording funds via a successful Pledge Music campaign.
