Chrisp Street Summer Saturdays are back! Come down and join us to celebrate the rich creativity, culture, and heritage of Chrisp Street and Poplar in these FREE-TO-ATTEND events, with someone for all ages to take part in.

Taking place on Saturday 30th August 12pm - 5pm, join us us for this FREE EVENT with workshops, music and dance performances, creative activities, and entertainment featuring local talent and community as we celebrate the end of Summer.

This free-to-attend event will run from 12pm – 5pm, with a programme including:

  • The Parade! Join this bold, vibrant procession featuring performers from the programme – wear bold colours and add to the party.
  • Dance performance and interactive workshops from IMD Legion, the award winning, East London based Urban Dance crew who have appeared on national TV shows including Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor.
  • A dance flashmob led by Speaker Box Party, a group who spread positivity and inclusiveness through the power of music, dance and spontaneous street parties.
  • Acrobats from Dubafrique perform their high energy show fusing African dance, acrobatics and music.
  • Performances and workshops from Absolute Bollywood dance trio, that will show you some classic and contemporary Bollywood dance moves.
  • Performance from Samba Sisters Collective – a community Samba fusion band based in East London.
  • Performance and interactive workshop from LoveDance, an Aldgate based inclusive adult dance group.
  • Report Back of the Vision for Chrisp Street with JTP
  • Performances from Gentleman Juggler Ian Marchant, whose family is from Chrisp Street.
  • Giant bubbles and balloon modelling!..
  • Live Music from Dhol Drummers, Sherika Sherard and Jasmine Rose Earl.
  • The Rig – the interactive musical playground returns to Chrisp Street, ready for all to explore and play
  • Creative workshops including instrument making, and headdress making to ensure everyone is Parade ready!
  • Giant Tea Cups Ride
  • Facepainting
  • A new edition of The Chrisp Street Discovery Trail - designed to help you unlock the heritage, cultures and stories of the space.
  • Browse and purchase food and drinks available from your favourite Chrisp Street businesses while taking in the entertainment and activities in the performance area

How do I get to Chrisp Street?

Chrisp Street is very accessible via public transport. Please do check of time to ensure no disruptions to your planned route. The nearest stations are

▪ All Saints (DLR) which is 3 minute walk

▪ Langdon Park (DLR) which is a 5 minute walk.

▪ Canary Wharf is (Elizabeth, Jubilee, DLR lines) is an 18 minute walk or you can change to take the DLR to All Saints or Langdon Park.

The following buses stop close to Chrisp Street:

Is there a cost to take part in the event?

No. All activities, performances and workshops are FREE to take part in.

Do I need a ticket?

No, you’re welcome to come along on the day. Please do encourage any friends or family who are coming to RSVP to the event here so we can have an idea of numbers attending.

What ages is the event for?

The event has something for all ages to take part in – from facepainting for the younger ones, to learning the Lindy Hop and enjoying music.

Will there be food and drink available?

Yes! One of the best parts of the event is the amazing food and drink available to purchase from Chrisp Street shops and restaurants – do make sure to explore!

Do I need to bring anything?

We'd love you and your group to wear bold, colourful clothes - this will help us make The Parade and The Event as bold and vibrant as possible as we celebrate Chrisp Street's community.

Please do check the weather forecast before, and dress appropriately – this may mean bringing a coat, umbrella and or sun hat, alongside water and suncream.

You may also wish to bring cash along as some vendors do not take card payment, however there are ATM machines at Chrisp Street.

The Parade is back! Wear your brightest, boldest clothing and join us in this celebration of Chrisp Street.

Dubafrique are returning to Chrisp Street for another high energy performance featuring acrobatics and dance

Absolute Bollywood will perform and lead a workshop, teaching you some Bollywood moves of your own!..

The Rig is a musical playground made of vintage items - come along and explore! Whilst you're there, make your own instrument that you can use in The Parade.

Children can take a spin on a free fairground ride

Gentleman Juggler Ian Marchant is back to share his variety of tricks and magic.

There will be creative workshops accessible for all to take part in

Taking place on Saturday 26th July, and Saturday 30th August, the Summer Saturdays celebrate Poplar’s culture, creative heritage, amazing community and brilliant local businesses who will be serving up your favourite food, drinks and treats for you to purchase.

These free to attend events are brought to you by Telford Living, and include music, dance, entertainment, workshops and creative activities for all to enjoy.
