It's Human To Need God (2)
Do you know what God wants? Last month we saw that God wants to be expressed through man (Genesis 1:26). Everything was created in the universe to fulfill this deep desire in God, and it was for this unique purpose that man was made as a vessel to contain Him (Zechariah 12:1, Romans 9:22).
This is why, in a very real sense it is human to need God. The deep sense of a need for God is the mark of a genuine and normal humanity. The thirst for God is a fundamental characteristic of our “humanness”; it distinguishes us from all the other living creatures on the earth. Only man senses a need for God.
Eternity in Our Hearts
When God created us, He also put eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). This means that in our human heart there is an aspiration for something eternal. Regardless of how rich or successful we may be, deep within us there is a gnawing sense of vanity and a cry for reality. Only One in the universe is eternal — the eternal God. Only He can satisfy the aspiration for eternity in our hearts.
Within us there is a thirst to be filled with God, and within God there is a corresponding desire to enter into us and be one with us.
Now, in our second session we will see how God fulfils His purpose, not by religion or any other way but by life. We will see from Genesis chapter 2, that God accomplishes His purpose by the tree of life and the river of water of life.
