Event description

Description

Christie Watson was a registered paediatric nurse for twenty years. She spent most of her career in paediatric intensive care in large NHS hospitals before becoming a resuscitation officer, which involved teaching and clinical work on hospital-wide crash teams.

Her first novel, Tiny Sunbirds Far Away, won the Costa First Novel Award and her second novel, Where Women Are Kings, was published to international critical acclaim. Her works have been translated into twenty three languages and Christie’s latest novel The Language of Kindness: A Nurse’s Story has sold over 100,000 copies in the UK and has been on the Sunday Times Bestseller list for 14 weeks. It was Waterstones Book of the Month in January 2019 and is nominated for The Bookseller’s Non-Fiction Narrative Book of the Year 2019.

Christie was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters for her contribution to Nursing and the Arts by the University of East Anglia, and she is patron of the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.

In this unique and intimate event, Christie will be talking about her latest memoirThe Language of Kindness: A Nurse’s Story, plus a chance for audience Q and A in the apt surroundings of Spire Manchester Hospital.

‘[The Language of Kindness]… is a remarkable book about life and death and so brilliantly written, it makes you hold your breath’
