It’s apparent from the trading figures currently making headlines that Christmas 2015 produced mixed results for many retailers, with sales relatively flat over the festive season for a multitude of reasons, but primarily:

  • Black Friday significantly impacted sales. Every day of the week prior to Black Friday ranked among the 10 busiest shopping days of the season and visits on Black Friday were 43% higher than the avg shopping day of 2015 Christmas season
  • Unseasonably warm weather caused clothing retailers to begin discounting early
  • Store sales declined

However, against this combination of challenging circumstances, online sales were up across most categories, confirming this channel as the key driver of growth.

So what can you do differently in 2016?

We invite you to join us for dinner on Thursday 11th February at the stylish Haymarket Hotel, London where we will reveal the big numbers you need to know, explain how customer behaviour is changing and why, and share predictions for Christmas 2016 to help you plan ahead.
