Christmas Concert
Event Information
About this Event
The evening will be in two halves and include early music ensembles Baroque Encounter and Lazarus.
A lively first half, by Lazarus, traces the Nativity story from the 1100s to the 1600s with music woven into its history and illustrated by the fresco paintings of St Botolph’s Church, Hardham, West Sussex in the Arun Valley and Saint-Martin de Fenollar in the French Pyrenees. The music blends the ‘picture tellers’ story of the Angel’s Message with elements of Hinduism and egalitarian faith, telling a Nativity story like no other.
The second half is pure Baroque, picking up the themes of the earlier music but elevating it to a higher church through the music of Purcell, Sammartini, Buxtehude, Vivaldi and Handel.
Lazarus: Sophia Brumfitt, Keith McGowen, William Summers, Rebecca Austen-Brown, Arngeir Hauksson
Baroque Encounter: Glenn Kesby, Lucy Thomas, Lauren Brant and David Beaney, Katie De La Matter
The evening will conclude with a social gathering with accompanying music. Cash bar available.
