Christmas in Bristol
Thu 1 December 2016, 09:00 – 19:00 GMT
Today we head south for a Christmas experience in Bristol. We arrive at midday to meet our guide at the Theatre Royal Bristol, where we will have a warming lunch of beef stew or vegetarian butternut squash soup with homemade bread followed by homemade cake with a cup of tea or coffee before a very interesting short talk.
Our speaker is one of the Old Vic’s longest standing employees and is fondly regarded as the lead expert on the theatre’s rich history and is great fun. When possible we’ll be in the auditorium with a chance to see the pantomime set .
Next by coach for a really good overview of this vibrant city. We’ll see Brunel’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and panoramic views of the Avon Gorge from up on the Clifton Downs. We’ll hear all about the origin of famous phrases such as Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion.
Afterwards, we visit the ever popular Bristol Christmas Markets, then shop all afternoon or join the jolly guide for a stroll to the nearby Old Town area to see the ‘nails’ which gave us the expression ‘to pay on the nail’. There’s time to buy tea or a bite to eat before heading home at 5.30pm.
Timings: Leave Leominster 9:00am., Hereford at 9:30am., Ross on Wye at 10:15am. Depart at 5:30pm and travel back to Ross at 7pm, Hereford at 7:30pm and then Leominster at 7:50pm
