Sgraffito is a pottery decoration technique that dates back to the tenth century and is still used today! The word sgraffito comes from the Italian for "scratched" and that is exactly how you will create your design on your trinket dish; layers of colourful underglaze will be scratched away to create white lines and patterns.

In this two hour workshop you will be provided with a leather-hard ceramic plate in the shape of a Christmas tree(this means it's clay that hasn't been fired) that has been painted with underglaze. You will then use a variety of tools to scrape through the layers of underglaze to create your pattern.

At the end of the workshop your finished piece will be fired and glazed and ready to collect from Hazlehurst Studios within 10 days.

This workshop is open to all ages, anyone who can hold a pencil can do sgraffito! As the tools used can be sharp, however, we do recommend that you use your discretion in deciding whether your child is old enough to use the tools themselves.
