Chrysanths (Emily Scott) returns to the Voodoo Rooms after last year's lush album launch for Leave No Shadow (released on Chemikal Underground). She will be offering reinterpretations of songs from the record, and bringing some new material to light. Simultaneously described as 'out of her time' and 'timeless', Scott's style is nostalgic, cool and poetic. Having fronted chamber pop outfit Modern Studies for over a decade, her solo work is a natural continuation of this catalogue, but with classic song-writing at its core. Her writing typically displays distinctive odd time-signatures, evocative lyrics and intuitive instrumentation.
“Emily Scott’s voice is a beautiful thing. It flies like Sandy Denny, but has the wounded intimacy of Beth Gibbons and the precision of Christine McVie” (MOJO)
“Her voice is cool, clear and unsentimental, with echoes of some of the great English stylists, from Sandy Denny to Jacqui McShee” (UNCUT)
