CHS x MAYS.MAP : Beyond the Trail - Marchlyn Mawr Loop
Join May (@mays.map). Get ready for an incredible adventure by taking on this spectacular loop and some of the most breathtaking views of Eryri National Park, while ticking off 4 incredible summits. Involving some scrambling and steep thin ridges - this loop is challenging but rewarding in views. We’ll begin with an ascent to our first summit, Carnedd Y Filiast, past beautiful lakes and winding roads. Where the views across the Carneddau and Glyderau mountain ranges will start to come into sight as we hit our 2nd summit, Mynydd Perfedd.Next, it’s time for the real challenge: ascending the narrow ridge to the summit of Elidir Fawr, also known as "Electric Mountain." Here, we’ll be standing on top of a powerhouse – quite literally – as this peak hides a massive Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Station within, the size of St Paul’s Cathedral! On a clear day, the view from here stretches all the way to the famous Snowdon Massif, a sight you won’t soon forget. The descent takes us down tricky scree paths towards Elidir Fach, with the Marchlyn Bach Reservoir coming into view below. Finally, after conquering the peaks, we’ll find the perfect spot for a well-deserved summer group picnic, so bring your blankets and snacks and get ready for an incredible summer hike. This is a difficult hike and will require a good level of fitness. It involves walking on scree path, ridges and rocky uneven footing. This year, founder of Another Hiking Collective, @Mays.Map, is inviting you to go beyond the hike. It's not just about reaching the summit and heading home – it's about forging unforgettable memories along the way. Each adventure in this series, beyond the trail, is created to make you feel connected to the wild, the people you’re with, and the world around you. From the first step to the last glance, it's about experiencing nature in a way that stays with you long after the trail ends. Together, let’s explore, laugh, and discover somewhere new. This isn't just a hike.
