About this event
CHS x MAYS.MAP: Beyond the Trail - Walla Crag
Join May (@mays.map). Get ready for a breathtaking autumn adventure in the heart of the Lake District, visiting one of the most beautiful fells. Starting in the picturesque town of Keswick, we’ll begin our hike exploring the shores of derwent water, known as the ‘Jewel of the Lake District’. From there, we’ll head towards the magical waterfalls at Ashness Bridge. We’ll soon ascend the rough, steep path up to Walla Crag, where you’ll be rewarded with the spectacular view of Derwent Water and its surrounding peaks such as Skiddaw. As we make our way down, we’ll pass Lady’s Rake, a narrow cleft in the crag that’s steeped in history. It’s said that the Countess of Derwent Water once used this perilous route to escape pursuers after her husband was captured. After completing the hike, we’ll head back to Keswick where you’ll have some time to explore the famous gift shops, find the perfect souvenir, and enjoy a well-deserved pub lunch together. This hike offers some of the best views the Lake District has to offer! This is an intermediate hike and will require a good level of fitness. It involves some steep areas and uneven footing that can be slippery at times. This year, founder of Another Hiking Collective, @Mays.Map, is inviting you to go beyond the hike. It's not just about reaching the summit and heading home – it's about forging unforgettable memories along the way. Each adventure in this series, beyond the trail, is created to make you feel connected to the wild, the people you’re with, and the world around you. From the first step to the last glance, it's about experiencing nature in a way that stays with you long after the trail ends. Together, let’s explore, laugh, and discover somewhere new. This isn't just a hike.
