Event description

Description

Join Chuffed.org for a workshop on Crowdfunding for Social Causes with WOTSO Workspace!

Donation-based crowdfunding is a new way of raising funds and allows you to source money for a project by asking a large number of contributors to donate a small amount, and asking a small number of contributors to donate a large amount. In return, backers may receive token rewards that increase in prestige as the size of the donation increases.

The Workshop

Chuffed.org is one of the leading (free!) global crowdfunding platforms for social causes. During this Workshop, Chuffed.org Community Leader Helen Merrick will give you an introduction to Crowdfunding and take you through the 5 Steps to a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign for Social Causes:

  1. Find your crowd (figure out who is going to support your project and why)
  2. Tell a specific, inspiring story that your supporters care about
  3. Set an achievable target and blow it out of the park
  4. Build early momentum
  5. Create a marketing and promotion plan for your campaign

About the Speaker

Helen Merrick, Chuffed.org Community Leader, PhD, BA Hons

Helen has been an academic for over 20 years, teaching and researching in the areas of communication, new media and cultural studies. She has published a number of books and articles on issues such as feminism, fiction, science, and sustainability. Over the years she has taught numerous courses to people from ages 16 to 76, run workshops, seminars, conferences and writers festival sessions, studying the impact and uses of social media. Helen's passion for sustainability and the desire to have more time for community and activism led to a downsizing and shift to Tasmania four years ago. Since moving, Helen has spent time volunteering for many community and social justice causes, primarily around sustainability and refugee issues. During this workshop, Helen will be sharing both her own experiences as well as learnings from over 5000 social cause projects on Chuffed.org.

Fees

  • $30 Discount ticket for existing Chuffed.org Campaigners, registered charities
  • $60 Standard ticket price
  • Discounts for WOTSO Members

As this is a hands-on workshop, places are limited to max. 15 participants. Proceeds from the workshop will go towards Helen's next social cause campaign on Chuffed.org.
