Church and Mental Health Event

An opportunity to hear teaching on mental health within the context of the church from a variety of professionals. This morning is designed to inform, inspire and equip church members, leaders and pastoral helpers.

Common Mental Health Problems, Stigma & Empathy
Adel Hanna, retired mental health clinician; with an interest in the role of spiritual factors in psychological healing
Brief overview of psychiatric conditions. Exploring the profoundly damaging effects of stigma. The role of communities and churches in fostering empathy towards the plight of sufferers.

An Interactive workshop exploring how the church can support people in respect to Mental Health
Being Present…. What we can learn from Mindfulness
Sharon Hartwell, Free Church Chaplain at Bournemouth University, experienced Counsellor and Supervisor
Exploring ways to maintain positive mental health, with emphasis on Mindfulness; allowing ourselves to see the present moment clearly, positively changing how we see ourselves and our lives.
