About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours
Reality Capture is a technique of recreating a space or a construction project in a 3D format for the purpose of establishing existing conditions, planning, and assurance using modern spatial plotting techniques such as LIDAR/Point Clouds, Photogrammetry, etc.
This session will cover what Reality Capture is and the advantages of performing Reality Capture ‘In-House’. It would discuss the barriers to adoption, risk and some common existing modelling traps.
Speaker
Michael Alder - Regional Reality Capture Lead, Arup
Michael started his career at Arup when 2D CAD was the main documentation technology. Gradually, 3D CAD was introduced, soon to be replaced by ‘Object-Based’ Modelling. After 10 years of working in Building Services and retrofitting plantrooms with a lack of accurate existing drawings, Michael introduced 3D Laser Scanning and Existing Modelling to the everyday engineering workflow. This has led to new ways of creating and maintaining 3D Asset Data, before, during and after construction.
Michael leads the Reality Capture skills network across the Australasian Region at Arup, which involves managing and upskilling staff and clients to benefit from its many digital tools and processes.
