About the Lecture Series: The Global Institute Lecture Series: Crossing the Line examines questions of transition and change in contemporary society.
Event Description:
The panel seeks to address concepts surrounding the public and political perceptions of the UK in response to the refugee crisis, and how formerly populist appeals of the 1980s towards helping ‘The Other’ have crossed moral lines in reaction to the current Middle Eastern crises.
Panelists:
Dorrie Chetty is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Westminster. Her research, writing and teaching relates to issues of migration, gender, race and social inclusion. Dorrie is currently building a network between academics and non-governmental organisations working in the area of migration, immigration and social cohesion.
Brian Whitaker is a journalist with a special focus on the Middle East, and was previously the Middle East editor at the Guardian. He is the author of "Arabs Without God: Atheism and Freedom of Belief in the Middle East".
