Event description

Description

‘Analysis and design of complex foundations and transfer structures. London case studies

From underground railways to Victorian sewers, from Roman ruins to unexploded WWII bombs, building sites in London can present serious challenges. Hidden below ground, our foundation strategies very often push the limit of structural engineering.

Using the examples of Principal Place Residential, 22 Bishopsgate, Newfoundland, and Shard Place, this lecture will describe the foundation systems and transfer structures used to overcome different site constraints and other architectural demands.

Diego Padilla Philipps is a senior structural engineer at WSP. He is part of the design and delivery team for 22 Bishopsgate, currently under construction, which is set to become the second tallest building in the UK.
