Explosions present forensic investigators with some of the most challenging incident scenes encountered.
This short presentation will provide an overview of the forensic processes involved in recording, recovery, analysis and interpretation of evidence associated with explosion scenes and devices.
The evaluation of explosion scenes to determine the nature and composition of explosive devices will be considered alongside the technical and forensic exploitation of improvised explosive devices and indicators of involvement in device manufacture.
Isobel Colclough is a Visiting Fellow at the Cranfield Forensic Institute, and Director of ILC Forensics Ltd, with a 25-year career in forensic investigation, from investigator, trainer, and inspector, through to international work. Experiences along the way have included investigations of multi-million-pound art theft, dead bodies in California and an explosion in Kabul.
