Event Details

Join us for an exciting event that explores the relationship between interactive immersive technologies, digital interpretations and visualisation of natural and cultural heritage in remote regions. This event will highlight how the collection, sharing and creation of knowledge can be transferred to diverse audiences with a view to empowering the public, to strengthen communities and to influence regional planning and policy.


This event will provide an overview of the CINE project followed by a presentation with Q&A from Dr Pall Jakob Líndal on the use of virtual reality for environmental and heritage visualisation to create sustainable future communities. Dr Pall Jakob Líndal will outline his work on "Cities that Sustain Us", using the example of Djupivogur, a small town in Eastern Iceland, as a case to develop the approach in bridging gaps between designers, authorities and the public, using psychology, planning and 3D technology.

 

Attendees will then be split into 2 groups to attend parallel practical workshop sessions before visiting the exhibition stands for hands on technology demonstrations. A Light lunch and refreshments will be available.

 

Connected Culture and Natural Heritage in a Northern Environment (CINE) is a collaborative digital heritage project between 9 partners and 10 associated partners from Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. 

 

CINE aims to transform people’s experiences of outdoor heritage sites through technology, building on the idea of “museums without walls”. New digital interfaces such as augmented reality, virtual world technology, and easy to use apps will bring the past alive, it will allow us to visualise the effects of the changing environment on heritage sites, and help us to imagine possible futures.

Workshops :

Attendees will split into 2 groups to partake in parallel workshops.

  • Workshop 1 : The Art and Science of Photogrammetry
  • Workshop 2 : 360 Virtual Tour Image Capture

Exhibitors :

This event includes a technology exhibition to showcase the latest interactive and mixed reality developments from the CINE project and regional heritage innovations. Attendees will be able to get hands-on with the technology.
