Event description

Description

2009 | 80 min | Directed by Daniel Filho | Portuguese (subtitles in English)

Segismundo (Tony Ramos) is a former political police officer serving under president Getúlio Vargas, whose strict ruling and proximity with the Axis nations received mounting democratic pressure in the midst of WWII. In April 1945, Segismundo is Chief of the Immigration Office in Rio de Janeiro and, therefore, in charge of preventing the entry of war criminals. At this point comes Polish former actor Clausewitz (Dan Stulbach), who must convince him that he is a victim of Nazism, rather than a Nazi agent, in order to gain access to the country.

Peacetime addresses very complex issues, such as migration and cultural clashes amidst times of conflict, through a simple yet profound story of a day that changes the lives of two men. Winner of Cinema Brazil Grand Prize for Best Actor (Tony Ramos), Best Director (Daniel Filho) and Best Cinematography (Tuca Moraes).
