Event description

Description

"Half the crowd loved us and half the crowd wanted to kill us."

Teenage Superstars is the story of how a bunch of Scottish teenagers making music in their bedrooms went on to take over the world. Narrated by The Breeders’ Kim Deal, the film recounts a period in the late 80’s and early 90’s Glasgow music scene that produced the likes of Primal Scream, the Jesus and Mary Chain, The Vaselines and Teenage Fanclub.

These upstart bands counted leading figures from the 90s alternative rock scene like Kurt Cobain and Thurston Moore as fans and this era is evocatively brought back to life in the film with extensive archive footage and new interviews with members of the bands, as well as Moore himself, who appears alongside Norman Blake, Rose McDowall, Alan McGee, Frances McKee and Eugene Kelly, amongst others.

Teenage Superstars is screening as part of CINEMA DAY 2019, a celebration of film and cinema across Northern Ireland, and MIXTAPE, a season of music films at Oh Yeah Music Centre curated by Feature and supported by Film Hub NI. New screenings on the first Wednesday of every month.
