Description

Saturday 22nd July:

11.30am to 12.30pm

3pm to 4pm

CINE[STHESIA] - the film club which showcases hidden gems from the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive.

The Empire Exhibition ran from May to October 1938 at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. To mark its 79th anniversary we are sharing our footage in a two part screening.

In Part II we look at a documentary series made for the Exhibition under the supervision of John Grierson. In Basil Wright's 'The Face of Scotland' and Donald Alexander's 'Wealth of a Nation' we see how Scotland viewed itself in the late 1930s - and how it wanted to present itself to the wider world.
