Event description

Description

In Scotland, we have an ageing workforce, and with no default retirement age. Many people will choose to work for longer or instead choose to reduce their hours. From a HR perspective, what does this mean for organisations and what is the impact on issues such as employee engagement, talent acquisition and retention as well as legal compliance?

Laura Airey, Postdoctoral Fellow and Wendy Loretto, Dean of the Business School at the University of Edinburgh will give an overview of current research and the evidence around how employers, aware of the ageing population and the need to retain older workers, are tackling the issue (or possibly not?). What are the best practice options open to employers and what is the current situation?
Brian Sloan and Jonathan Park from Age Scotland will review the practical steps that employers can take in supporting older workers in the workplace to mutual benefit. Clearly, the evidence suggests that age stereotypes about the benefits and disadvantages of an ageing workforce persist. How can these be overcome? Brian and Jonathan will review the range of practical support offered by Age Scotland which aims to help employers and employees ask themselves the key questions to allow them to plan sufficiently for this transition in working lives.

Tea, Coffee and a light buffet will be served from 18.00
