Wessex Branch Annual Event

We are very pleased to be running a Wessex Branch Conference on 6 March 2020 at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton from 9am to 5pm.

Our exciting speakers and events during the day will make this event a sell out! Read more below and make sure you book your place quickly.

PETER CHEESE – CIPD Chief Executive
We are delighted to have Peter Cheese, CIPD Chief Executive, joining us in the morning. Peter has led the CIPD since July 2012, and he writes and speaks widely on the development of HR, the future of work, and the key issues of leadership, culture and organisation, people and skills.

At our event he is keen to discuss the vision for the CIPD and what the future potentially looks like for the HR profession. This will include discussing the big contextual changes and drivers for business and how these are shaping the HR agenda. Within his talk he’ll also be exploring the critical people issues that are impacting social policy and business strategy, discussing the priorities for HR as a result, as well as the capabilities and mindset shifts we need to make.

PERRY TIMMS - PTHR
We are thrilled to be welcoming Perry Timms, PTHR, to talk about Human Energy at Work: The Missing Link to Fulfilment AND Productivity - What is our energy source, utilisation and regeneration at work?

Perry has been in and around business change for over 25 years and the last 16 in HR, OD and Learning. In that time his reputation has been to be energetic and optimistic about doing the work he loves. He was even called Mr Fantastic by his tech colleagues in the early 2000s as he would say 'this is going to be fantastic' a lot. Unfortunately for many of us, it's more like Doctor Doom than the Fantastic Four. So, what can we do? There is hope. Always hope.

Perry's research and experiences have led him to The Energised Workplace. During Perry's keynote, you will learn more about where you are on the scale of energising organisations and what you might do to create a regenerative approach to your people's energy, Via a new model, range of theories and practices, that will help you not only create better experiences of work and optimise people's performance, but also design roles and workflow to build organisations where people truly flourish.

EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL – WITH BLAKE MORGAN
Our employment law and tribunal events always prove popular with CIPD members therefore the afternoon of our conference will be dedicated to a mock employment tribunal, courtesy of Blake Morgan.

Attending or preparing for a Tribunal Hearing can be an uncertain time for HR and witnesses alike. This event therefore aims to provide an insight into how the Tribunal system works and, hopefully, reassurance in how to manage a claim going forward without the stress of being involved for real!

The claim will involve allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination. The format will be interactive and will be a great opportunity to observe how witness evidence in Employment Tribunal cases is prepared and presented and what factors an Employment Tribunal considers when making its decision. The session will include:

  • Documents available for you to read before the hearing starts;
  • Seeing how an Employment Tribunal hearing is conducted, including cross-examination of the witnesses, presentation of legal arguments and the Employment Tribunal's judgment; and
  • Exploring and discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each party's case.

More specific timings for the day will be provided slightly closer to the date. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, as well as a hot and cold buffet at lunchtime.

Take a look below at more information about our speakers and make sure to book your place FAST!

Do you actually have the right colleagues in the role in the first place and are you setting them up for success during their first few months in the organisation?

This event aims to share with you the journey we went on to answers these questions. The session will take you through how we transformed our candidate experience and created an award winning on-boarding programme - all aimed at improving our colleague retention.
