Event description

Description

Join CIPR Northern Ireland's expert panel for a discussion about women working in communications.

PR, and the wider communications industry, is an exciting and dynamic profession in which to work. Around 66% of employees are female, and yet the numbers diminish up the corporate ladder.

Competence aside, there are many reasons for this, which move way beyond the gender pay gap.

Examples of barriers to women achieving senior positions include unconscious bias at senior levels; perceptions about women’s potential; stereotypes; an absence of role models; career breaks; caring responsibilities; full time working being the existing norm; and a lack of mentoring; and loss of career momentum following maternity leave.

So, what can we do?

Join us for a lively debate to discuss these issues and identify solutions.

The panel includes:

  • Gemma-Louise Bond, well-known blogger ‘That Belfast Girl’ and Marketing Assistant at Victoria Square
  • Michelle Canning, former journalist turned award-winning Senior Communications Manager at NIHE
  • Susie Brown, Interim Director of Corporate Development at Tourism NI and the driving force behind ‘Be Seen Be Heard’, a media initiative to improve gender balance on Northern Ireland’s airwaves.

The event will take place in the Entrepreneurial Spark Hub on Lombard Street at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.

Entrepreneurial Spark, Powered by Ulster Bank, is the world’s largest free business accelerator. The Belfast Hub opened its doors last February and has supported over 200 entrepreneurs with fully funded office space, mentoring, workshops and events. With its four programmes, the hub supports those starting out, to those looking to grow and scale their teams and business

Members and non-members welcome.

Sandwiches, tea and coffee will be available. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
