Then the Circular Economy Innovation Communities (CEIC) programme (run by Swansea and Cardiff Metropolitan universities, and funded by the Welsh Government and the European Social Fund) may be for you.

Why?

We are living through one of the most challenging times in living history.

In addition to a devastating global pandemic, Wales also faces a number of other challenges including climate change, poverty, health inequalities, homelessness and growth.

These issues are highly relevant and are in line with the ‘Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act'. Public organisations have a duty to think about the long-term impact of their decisions to work better with people, communities and each other, and prevent persistent problems such as poverty, health, inequalities and climate change.

With the introduction of the new law of 7 goals, all the public bodies know what they must work towards. The Wellbeing Goals are:

A globally responsible Wales

A prosperous Wales

A resilient Wales

A healthier Wales

A more equal Wales

A Wales of cohesive communities

A Wales of vibrant culture and thriving Welsh language

There is already exciting innovation practice taking place. You need to make sure that when you make decisions you think about how it will affect people living in Wales in the future. This means you need to think about being sustainable.

To be sustainable, you have to think about:

• The long term

• How to stop problems happening in the first place

• How they work together with others

• How they involve people in making decision

However is there more we can do?

To meet the Welsh Government’s Future Generations goal, how can we create solutions that will deliver ‘Circular Economy’ benefits? How can we keep resources in use for as long as possible by recovering and regenerating materials at the end of their life, instead of disposing of them?

Together we can create ideas that not only creates the next generation of what our communities need, but also support Wales to become a zero-waste, net-zero carbon country that is greener, more equal and more prosperous.

The CEIC programme can provide you the opportunity to play your part;

- to co-produce ideas with a variety of departments and sectors

- to broaden your knowledge base

- to expand collaboration between regional public bodies

- to give theory behind your thinking

Play your part

The CEIC programme is a fully-funded 10 month programme comprising of workshops, site visits (COVID-19 restrictions dependant), action learning, peer learning and expert support to enable public sector managers and leaders to co-create new products or services.

Tackling Your Challenges

Participants in the programme will be invited to view every day challenges in your organisation through a circular economy lens: how can we implement solutions that are resource-efficient, resilient and low-carbon by design?

We want the public sector to work effectively together to re-think how resources are managed within new and existing projects and services, so that they can maximise the financial, environmental and social benefits within the organisation.

This might be through:

• Procurement of products that are refurbished, remanufactured or contain recycled materials and/or products designed for long life, reuse and repair

• Procurement of services that provide access to products (for example, renting or leasing furniture or medical equipment)

• Implementing processes that allow the effective sharing of resources between different public sector organisations

• Collaboration between different public sectors

• Building partnerships that turn public sector waste into resources for another industry

• Designing policies that ensure resource-efficient delivery of public services (for example, guidance on retrofitting of social housing or renewable energy for public transport)

There are many other potential circular economy opportunities and we are excited to see what your ideas are!

• Managers and leaders of public services and third sector organisations, that are constituted as a charity, Community Interest Company, or Community Benefit Society

Pam?

Rydyn ni’n byw trwy un o’r adegau mwyaf heriol ers cyn cof.

Yn ogystal â phandemig byd-eang dinistriol, mae Cymru hefyd yn wynebu nifer o heriau eraill gan gynnwys newid hinsawdd, tlodi, anghydraddoldebau iechyd, digartrefedd a diffyg twf.

Mae’r materion hyn yn hynod o berthnasol ac maen nhw’n unol â Deddf Llesiant Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol (Cymru). Mae cyfrifoldeb ar sefydliadau cyhoeddus i feddwl am effaith hirdymor eu penderfyniadau i weithio’n well gyda phobl, cymunedau a’i gilydd, ac i atal problemau anodd eu dileu fel tlodi, anghydraddoldebau iechyd a newid hinsawdd.

Gyda chyflwyno cyfraith y 7 amcan newydd, mae pob corff cyhoeddus yn gwybod beth sydd rhaid iddo weithio tuag ato. Dyma’r amcanion lles:

Mae gwaith arloesol cyffrous yn cael ei wneud yn barod. Wrth wneud penderfyniadau, mae’n rhaid i chi sicrhau eich bod yn ystyried yr effaith y byddan nhw’n ei chael ar bobl fydd yn byw yng Nghymru yn y dyfodol. Mae hyn yn golygu bod rhaid i chi feddwl am fod yn gynaliadwy.

I weithredu mewn modd cynaliadwy, rhaid i chi ystyried y canlynol:

• Yr hirdymor

• Sut i atal problemau rhag digwydd yn y lle cyntaf

• Sut rydych chi’n cydweithio ag eraill

• Sut rydych yn cynnwys pobl eraill wrth wneud penderfyniadau

Fodd bynnag, oes mwy y gallwn ni ei wneud?

Er mwyn cyrraedd amcan Cenedlaethau’r Dyfodol Llywodraeth Cymru, sut allwn ni greu datrysiadau fydd yn cynnig buddion ‘Economi Gylchol’? Sut allwn ni sicrhau bod adnoddau’n cael eu defnyddio am gyhyd â phosib trwy adfer ac adnewyddu deunyddiau ar ddiwedd eu hoes yn lle eu taflu?

Gyda’n gilydd, gallwn ddyfeisio syniadau sydd nid yn unig yn creu’r genhedlaeth nesaf o’r hyn sydd ei angen ar ein cymunedau, ond sydd hefyd yn helpu Cymru i ddod yn wlad ddiwastraff, net-sero o ran carbon, ac sy’n wyrddach ac yn fwy cyfartal ac yn llewyrchus.

Gall y Rhaglen ar gyfer Arloesi Cymunedol yn yr Economi Gylchol roi’r cyfle i chi chwarae eich rhan wrth wneud y canlynol:

- cyd-greu syniadau ag amrywiaeth o adrannau a sectorau

- ehangu eich gwybodaeth

- cynyddu cydweithio rhwng cyrff cyhoeddus rhanbarthol

- defnyddio theori i atgyfnerthu eich syniadau
