Cities Outlook 2019:
approaching the end of austerity?

Time: 12.30pm-2pm
Date: Monday 28 January 2019
Venue: 29th Floor Millbank Tower, 21 – 24 Millbank, London SW1P 4QP

Join Centre for Cities’ at the launch of its flagship annual report Cities Outlook which provides a comprehensive picture of the economic status of UK cities.

2019 will be a landmark year in UK government with the country taking its leave from the European Union. At the same time a Spending Review that promises to end almost a decade of austerity will reveal what this means across government.

At a critical time for cities, Cities Outlook 2019 will examine their finances in more detail, looking not just at public funding levels since 2010, but at their response to often challenging situations. While many metropolitan areas were hit hard by austerity many were able to respond with innovative solutions, demonstrating their ability, with limited powers, to source local funding streams enabling them to continue delivering vital services.

As we look ahead to the Spending Review, Cities Outlook 2019 will ask what government should provide cities with to best enable future growth, particularly as the country enters a new era away from Europe.

The report will be launched from 12.30pm until 2pm, on Monday 28 January 2019 with a panel of expert speakers including:

  • Cllr Abi Brown, Deputy Leader, Stoke-on-Trent

  • Cllr Nick Forbes, Leader, Newcastle City Council

  • Professor Tony Travers, Director, LSE London

The event will take place at Altitude on Floor 29 of Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London SW1P 4QP.
