About this event

The Details

Join us for a day of woodland management and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We are carrying out this work to maintain a healthy and sustainable woodland that supports local wildlife and the surrounding community.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day - you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and older children.

The work we'll be doing will involve using tools like loppers, secateurs, tree poppers, pruning saws and bow saws. We will be using these tools to prune back trees, remove invasive species, and widen the paths. Litter pickers will also be provided. Training will be provided on the day.

Time & Location

  • 10 am - 3 pm at Nansen Park, Trafford, M32 0PX
  • Meet near the Thornbury Road entrance ///bets.splash.shades

If you have any issues finding the event on the day then please contact Hannah (07519 326206) or Nina (07354904064).

Parking/public transport

  • There is limited residential parking along Thornbury Road and Nansen Close. Please be mindful of leaving space for residents to use their driveways.
  • Bus 263 operates in the area, and bus 255 runs between the nearest bus stop and Picadilly Gardens.

About the site

Nansen Close is a Public Park. The area where we will be working has uneven ground, thick vegetation, and informal paths through the woodland. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring anything with me?

We provide all the tools and materials you’ll need, including gloves. There will be a briefing at the start of the day, so you don’t need to prepare anything in advance.

Will we stop for lunch?

Yes! If you are staying all day, please bring along your lunch for our break halfway through the day. We will provide tea, coffee, water and biscuits to keep you going through the day!

What happens if it rains?

We usually go ahead whatever the weather, we would only reschedule in extreme circumstances. If it’s really bad we will make a judgement call the day before or on the day of the event.
