About this Event

Scotland plans to host a citizens' assembly in 2020. It aims to bring the people of Scotland and experts together to help make recommendations on Scotland's future.

This panel will discuss what we can learn from citizens' assemblies around the world and why they are becoming so popular.

Chaired by Shelagh Wright, board member for thinktank Compass, this panel includes:

  • Dr Oliver Escobar, Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at the University of Edinburgh
  • Jamie Kelsey-Fry, co-ordinator for Extinction Rebellion
  • Dr Jane Suiter, Director of the Institute for Future Media and Journalism at Dublin City University
  • Dr Ellen Stewart, Chancellor's Fellow in the Centre for Biomedicine, Self & Society at the University of Edinburgh and member of the Social Policy Association's Executive Committee.
