Event description

Description

This Afternoon Session is part of the Citizen’s Basic Income Day at the London School of Economics on Tuesday 20th February.

Discussion of a Citizen’s Basic Income – an unconditional, nonwithdrawable income for every individual (and sometimes called a Basic Income, a Citizen’s Income, or a Universal Basic Income) – is now a mainstream global social policy debate. The LSE, with its diversity of expertise, is the ideal location for a day that brings together a number of different aspects of that debate. The event is organised and supported by departments across LSE and the UNDP.

The afternoon session will bring together, for the first time in an academic platform, speakers from pilot projects and experiments around the world. Findings from projects in Namibia, India, Kenya, Finland and research on the US and Canadian experiments of the 1970s will be shared. Studies and pilots currently underway will be introduced, including among others initiatives in Scotland, the Netherlands, Iran and Serbia.

This session will conclude with a discussion panel by LSE academics and UNDP representatives on the implications of researching and implementing universal basic income globally.

You will need to register separately for each of the three different parts of the day:
