Citizens: In Conversation with Jon Alexander
Event Information
About this event
The key to fixing everything is all of us...
In his recently-published book Citizens (co-authored with the New York Times bestselling writer Ariane Conrad) Jon Alexander tells the story of how human history shifted from the Subject Story of kings and empires, to the current Consumer Story.
Now he argues compellingly that it is time for us to enter the Citizen Story. Because when our institutions treat people as citizens rather than consumers, everything changes.
Unleashing the power of 'everyone' equips us to face the challenges of economic insecurity, climate crisis, public health threats, and polarisation.
We are thrilled to be welcoming Jon to Frome to talk about his book and the role we can all play as citizens of Frome and beyond.
And who better to engage him in conversation than the fantastic Peter Macfadyen and Jean Boulton? Peter is well known for bringing IfF (Independents for Frome) to life, shaking up the political landscape of the town, and for his subsequent handbooks on how to revolutionise local politics (Flatpack Democracy and Flatpack Democracy 2.0). Jean is a fellow former-IfF Councillor, and the co-author of Embracing Complexity: Strategic Perspectives for an Age of Turbulence.
There will be a Q&A after the event and the chance to buy copies of the book.
Please note: Parking onsite is limited. We recommend on-street parking on Welshmill Rd or in the nearby Cattle Market Carpark (free after 6pm), both a very short walk from the venue. The ticket price includes a glass of wine /non-alcoholic refreshment.
