Over the past 5 years Nottingham Citizens has placed a huge emphasis on developing leaders in our institutions to be able to organise effectively to win major significant changes in the city. We have grown too, with Maun Valley Citizens begining its life in Mansfield and Ashfield two years ago.
In 2015 alone we have organised the largest single action in the general election, seen the creation of 2 new posts in the council and police to tackle hate crime, the implementation of a new protocol to guarantee support for homeless 16 and 17 year olds, a commitment from the local authority to implement a major investiment fund for local businesses and licensing to tackle rogue landlords. We have met with 3 government ministers and turned out almost 500 people in only 36 hours to join with a wider city vigil in response to the refugee crisis and had commitments from the government to work with us on improving adult social care.
We believe Community Organising works. This training will unpack the argument for Community Organising and share some of the practical tools we use as an alliance to act together for change but also to strengthen the exisiting work of our institutions. Training includes sessions on negotiation, power analysis, understanding self-interest, the use of 121 meetings, developing a culture of shared action and leadership.
This course will run over two full days, with lunch and light refresments provided on both. Attending both parts of the course is compulsory as the content builds throughout each session. This course is particulalry targetted at those in both formal and informal leadership roles in their institutions or those keen to be active within a Citizens team and will be relevant for those with an experience of active involvement in Citizens or those who are new to the organisation.
If you have any questions and would like to know if this course would be right for you please speak to your organisational leader responsible for work with Nottingham Citizens or Maun Valley Citizens or contact our Organiser Lydia Rye at firstname.lastname@example.org
