City Camp: Youth Inequality in Birmingham
Fri 17 June 2016, 19:00 – 21:00 BST
Join Beatfreeks as they look at youth inequality in Birmingham and the role of art activism in overcoming adversity through a night of performance and provocation. The event will draw on reflections from their work and aims to get people organising and mobilising around this topic with a bit more thought, passion and creativity.
The evening will be chaired by CEO of Beatfreeks and TEDxBrum 2016 speaker Anisa Haghdadi and has been curated by the Beatfreeks team.
We are also delighted to announce that the night will feature a provocation piece from rising star Kojey Radical - Artist. Poet. Musician. Director. Creative Director of PUSHCRAYONS.
More about Beatfreeks:
Founded in February 2013, Beatfreeks is a creative youth engagement agency based in the heart of Birmingham.
We are an award winning social enterprise firmly rooted in Birmingham working nationally with some experience in international consultancy.
We pioneer new ways of engaging, empowering and equipping young people and spaces through a blend of arts & media, social action, leadership and enterprise. We like to think of it as art activism or even Artivism.
We’ve achieved some pretty awesome stuff, from working with BBC 1Xtra on 'Scratchbeat' to bring national and local talent together to share a stage (which also saw local artists get national airplay), through to working with a group of young people passionate about mental health over 12 weeks to set up their own official social enterprise ‘Ripple CIC’.
Beatfreeks is a philosophy, a mindset and a reflection of a new generation of creative, freethinking social reformers. We pride ourselves in bringing the creative to the professional, and the professional to the creative.
This event is part of #CityCampBrum - an open festival exploring and unleashing positive solutions for the future of the city.
