About this Event

City Co-Labs: Re-Making Place Debate20th September, 6pm-8.30pm , Lancaster Rooms, New Wing, Somerset House Free

How can we re-imagine inclusion, interaction and civic good within future cities?Makerversity’s Civic Hacks addresses the big social issues of our time. We create new collaborations between makers, creating radical solutions to social problems.

For London Design Festival we present City Co-Labs: Re-Making Place, in partnership with The Northban BID, exhibiting the outcomes of our Civic Hack run this summer. It invited makers to explore the future city via the way we use and design its public spaces. Makers worked together on new ideas reimagining the function of urban public space. From re-imagining water use in public space to involving trees in public consultations and putting access and caregivers' use of public space at the forefront - come discover our three final proposals and vote for your favourite concept. The winning team will develop their idea in a 6-month Northbank BID residency at Makerversity.

On #ClimateStrike day, join us from 6pm to see the exhibition after hours with a presentation at 7pm of our Civic Hack participants' proposals, introduced by Joanna Turner, Place-Shaping Officer at Westminster Council. Take part in the wider debate, and have your say about public space issues affecting London in terms of sustainability and access!

About our three teams and proposals:

Hydro-Commons rethinks water as a collective resource in the city, inspired by Makerversity’s proximity to the Thames and Somerset House’s fountains.

Tree FM imagines how we can involve trees in a public space consultation.

Caring for Carers focuses on public space users with specific access needs and their caregivers.

(Please note: There is no step-free access to the Lancaster Rooms but we can arrange ramp access can. Please email us in advance to let us know if you need step free access or any accessibility requirements.)
