With heavy investment in green sector industries and increasing numbers of organisations looking to develop their green credentials to reduce their impact on the environment, there has never been a better time to upskill in the fundamentals of sustainability. The themes of this accredited City & Guilds qualification are targeted at those wanting to develop and improve their knowledge and understanding of Sustainability and the Green Environment and can be applied to a range of industries and sectors.
Who is this qualification for?
This Level 2 qualification is aimed at learners who wish to understand sustainable working practices for a specific job role or future job role, ongoing training and CPD or organisations looking to better understand sustainable practices.
The themes of the qualification are suitable for those who desire to develop or improve their knowledge and understanding of Sustainability and the Green Environment and can be applied to a range of industries and sectors.
It is especially useful for those who want to work within sustainability, Sustainability Officers or those who have been given responsibility for sustainability within their organisations.
What does this qualification cover?
This in-person course will provide you with valuable knowledge and skills in sustainability practices and environmental conservation. The qualification is for learners (irrespective of their sector) to develop knowledge and understanding of the terms environment, sustainability, climate change and net zero as they relate to a green future.
You will explore the definitions, categories, components and human and non-human impacts of the environment, and the definitions, pillars, actors and green technologies relating to sustainability. The topics of greenhouse gases, sources, targets and their effects on climate change will be covered, in addition to the carbon context, carbon footprint and national/international policies on net zero.
The course is also an opportunity to learn and connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about creating a greener future.
How is the course structured?
The sessions will be delivered across 5 weekly sessions from 09:30 - 16:30 throughout October, with a single exam in November:
Session 1: Monday 6th October 2025
Session 2: Monday 13th October 2025
Session: 3: Monday 20th October 2025
Session 4: Monday 27th October
Exam: Monday 3rd November 2025
You must be able to attend the in-person examination in order to complete the qualification.
About your tutor.
Your course will be delivered by Diane Gould, Wilder Engagement Manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. She holds a Masters in Environmental Management and Business Strategy with the last 15 years spent teaching within the conservation sector.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is an accredited training centre for this City & Guilds qualification.
Frequently asked questions
We have free onsite parking at the Whistlestop Classroom at Matlock Bath Station.
The Whistlestop Classroom is located on the platform at Matock Bath Station with regular services between Matlock, Derby and Nottingham.
The classroom sessions will take place indoors with access to toilets and a small kitchen area.
If you are unable to attend the course after booking please email: trainingenquiries@derbyshirewt.co.uk at least 7 days prior to the event. Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be able to claim a refund.

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserves the right to cancel the course at any time. Attendees will be notified at least 24 hours in advance and will be entitled to a full refund.
Unfortunately we cannot control the weather so most courses will go ahead as planned. However, in extreme cases we may cancel/postpone if the weather is likely to pose an unacceptable risk to staff and attendees. Wherever possible, we will contact attendees prior to the event start time to advise.
