City Lit Deaf Day 2016: Arts Tasters for Deaf People
Sat 9 July 2016, 10:00 – 16:00 BST
New for Deaf Day 2016!
We are running free arts workshops for Deaf adults to try our City Lit Visual Arts courses. All of the workshops will be interpreted into BSL.
These are small groups with limited availability, only one place per person. You can book places in advance on Eventbrite and some tickets can be booked on the day.
Unfortunately, due to Health and Safety, there will be no access without a ticket and the workshops are only for adults over 18.
Photography - basic introduction
Learn how to use a camera creatively with a basic toolkit of shutterspeed and aperture. We will look at some contemporary photographers' work in colour and with this fresh in your imagination go on a treasure hunt to find your own gold. Bring along your digital cameras or borrow some of ours.
Tutor: Sara Leigh Lucas
Jewellery - basic metalwork
Come and make a cut out pendant or key ring. You will learn how to create a template and transfer this onto sheet metal. You will then cut your shape by hand and apply texture or a shiny finish. Please make sure you wear sensible shoes.
Tutor: Louise Seijen Ten Hoorn
Ceramic - Open studio
Join us in the ceramic workshop and create a small vessel/form using pinch and/or coil techniques with terracotta clay, your artwork will be fired for collection at a later date. You will be given demonstrations and taught in groups and 1:1 in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Tutor: Shelley Wilson
Printmaking - open studio
Monoprinting is the simplest and most direct form of making a print. Come along and try out printing by hand and with a press with this spontaneous medium that encourages experiment and exploration.
