Date and time
Description
**Edit - CityCamp Coventry has now been changed to a two day event - Friday and Saturday, 19-20 October. Idea development, pitches and winner will happen on Saturday instead of Sunday**
CityCamp is coming to Coventry!
Coventry City Council Chief Executive, Dr Martin Reeves, has backed the initiative to run Coventry’s first CityCamp and the City Council will be providing the location for the event over the weekend 19-21 October 2012.
What is CityCamp?
CityCamp’s are unconferences (Link to CityCampCoventry: what are unconferences) and have four main goals:
- Bring together government officials, municipal employees, experts, programmers, designers, citizens and journalists to share perspectives and insights about the cities in which they live;
- Create and maintain government transparency and effective local governance using the web as a catalyst;
- Foster communities of practice and advocacy on the role of information and open data in cities and society;
- Create outcomes that participants will act on during and, perhaps more importantly, after the event.
How will CityCamp Coventry work?
CityCamp Coventry is designed to encourage active participation from attendees and is split over three days.
The first day is to stimulate conversation between key leaders from local government, business and community organisations.
Day two encourages participation and collaboration and follows two Tracks - idea development and attendee-led workshops. Individuals or groups present their ideas (the attendees drive the agenda), and then lead hour-long discussions on issues of concern to them, while those ideas shortlisted from the Simpl Challenges page will be developed and prototyped throughout the day before pitching to a panel of judges. A winning idea will be chosen and receive a support package to help continue their idea post-event.
