Cityread: A Tour of Elizabethan London by Nick Dobson
Thu 27 April 2017, 18:30 – 19:45 BST
Travel back to the year 1600 to take a virtual trip around our capital as it looked 400 years ago.
We'll see a few familiar landmarks, but be prepared to experience the sights of a city very different to modern London.
What is Cityread?
Cityread London is an annual, month-long London-wide celebration of literature with related book groups, events, digital art installations and screenings across the capital.
This initiative is designed to promote reading for pleasure, engage new library users and encourage people to explore and celebrate their city’s history. Each year in April, Cityread London chooses a book and invites the whole capital to get reading.
The 2017 title for Cityread London is Prophecy by Sunday Times number one bestseller, S.J. Parris. Prophecy is a gripping Elizabethan spy thriller, focused on the plot against Elizabeth to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne. Set in 1583 its protagonist is the real life shadowy Giordano Bruno, an Italian "monk, scientist, philosopher, and magician" and excommunicated heretic.
