Cityread: Anne Boleyn Talk by Natalia Richards
Mon 24 April 2017, 18:30 – 19:45 BST
Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.
If we know anything about King Henry V111’s wives, we will be familiar with this rhyme. We might also know that Anne Boleyn became Henry’s second wife. That she failed to provide the son she had promised, held Evangelical ideas, and was executed before her 36th birthday.
But what do we know of Anne before she met the King? Where was she born? Who were her family, and what was special about her education? Here we find out about the girl who became Queen of England and changed the face of English history.
Join Natalia Richards as she sheds an interesting insight into the life of a young Anne Boleyn.
What is Cityread?
Cityread London is an annual, month-long London-wide celebration of literature with related book groups, events, digital art installations and screenings across the capital.
This initiative is designed to promote reading for pleasure, engage new library users and encourage people to explore and celebrate their city’s history. Each year in April, Cityread London chooses a book and invites the whole capital to get reading.
The 2017 title for Cityread London is Prophecy by Sunday Times number one bestseller, S.J. Parris. Prophecy is a gripping Elizabethan spy thriller, focused on the plot against Elizabeth to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne. Set in 1583 its protagonist is the real life shadowy Giordano Bruno, an Italian "monk, scientist, philosopher, and magician" and excommunicated heretic.
