Event description

Description

Led by David Evans, this talk will look at some of the massive religious changes which ordinary English men and women faced between 1534-1559, and at some of the ways in which they coped with these at the time.

What is Cityread?

Cityread London Logo

Cityread London is an annual, month-long London-wide celebration of literature with related book groups, events, digital art installations and screenings across the capital.

This initiative is designed to promote reading for pleasure, engage new library users and encourage people to explore and celebrate their city’s history. Each year in April, Cityread London chooses a book and invites the whole capital to get reading.

The 2017 title for Cityread London is Prophecy by Sunday Times number one bestseller, S.J. Parris. Prophecy is a gripping Elizabethan spy thriller, focused on the plot against Elizabeth to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne. Set in 1583 its protagonist is the real life shadowy Giordano Bruno, an Italian "monk, scientist, philosopher, and magician" and excommunicated heretic.
