Event description
We’ll be exploring what the streaming generation want from orchestras and how we can best engage with them. Part of our #RegenerateSeries.

About this event

Join us for the final Regenerate event of 2021 on Thursday 30 September at 11am.

Regenerate is our series of online conversations designed to explore new ideas that challenge the sector’s thinking and help create positive change for the communities we engage with.

Recent research* shows young people are streaming classical music more than ever, with a surge of interest in the genre during the pandemic. Yet younger audiences are still in the minority at in-person orchestral events, despite efforts to create new concert formats to attract a younger demographic.

The sector's been navel-gazing about this for long enough, so we’re bringing together a panel of young people to ask them directly what their perceptions of orchestras are? What do they think of the sector’s attempts to attract them?

The panel includes Alissa Moore, Cumbria Calling Young Composer, Max Louth, Creative Learning and Youth Participation Coordinator at 20Twenty Productions CIC, and Beth White, trustee and musician at Orchestras for All.

We’ll hear from the panel about why they think there is an apparent disconnect between the diverse and connected musical world they experience, and the inaccessible and inward-looking character of our own sector. We’ll ask them how the sector can best engage and inspire them? What type of entertainment experiences are they looking for? How can music and the sector help support their health and wellbeing, learning and self-development.

*Classical Revival Report 2020

The event is free, as we wish to make it accessible to as wide a group of people as possible. There is the option to make a voluntary donation post-event, to support our ongoing event costs and to enable us to secure the future of the series.

Our previous Regenerate events have sold out quickly and we encourage you to register early for this session.

This event will take place on Zoom and closed captions will be available. Joining instructions will be sent to event attendees 24 hours before the event. Please note this event will be recorded.
