Event description

Description

Claire Tomalin has written nine acclaimed biographies – Mary Wollstonecraft, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Katherine Mansfield, Nelly Ternan, Mrs Jordan, Jane Austen, Samuel Pepys, Thomas Hardy and Charles Dickens.

Now she has written her memoir A Life of My Own, and has kindly agreed to come and talk about it to raise funds for Home-Start Winchester. For many years she resisted writing about herself, and reading of her tempestuous life and family tragedies it is not difficult to see why. Literature has always been her life, and in addition to her books she has also served as Literary Editor of the New Statesman and the Sunday Times. She resigned from the latter after a spectacular row with the Editor, Andrew Neil.

Her previous visits to Winchester were all sellouts, so early booking is advised for all those eager to hear one of our great writers talking about her eventful life. The talk will be followed by a book signing.
