CLARiTY Session 3: Lasting Power of Attorney and Deputyship
Event Information
About this Event
This is the third event in a series organised by Birmingham Law School, Wolferstans Solicitors and Bringing Us Together. It will be facilitated by Philipa Bragman, and will include talks from Professor Rosie Harding (Birmingham Law School), Sophie O'Connell (Wolferstans Solicitors). We plan to have a guest speaker too.
In our second event, about supported decision-making, there were lots of questions about Lasting Power of Attorney and Deputyship. These legal frameworks allow another person to make decisions on behalf of people who can't make decisions for themselves. The person who can't make decisions decides who can have Lasting Power of Attorney. The Court of Protection decides who can be a Deputy.
In this session we will give information about:
1) Lasting Power of Attorney
We will talk about what is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), who is it for, how to make it and how to use it. We will talk about what kinds of decisions can someone with an LPA make.
2) Deputyship
We will also talk about how deputyship works. We will think about situations when a deputy may be appointed and what decisions can be made by a deputy.
This FREE zoom room session is the third in a series of events for disabled people and family carers.
