Event description

Description

Join us for a series of talks, workshops on panels addressing sex and class in 2018. This is a women only event. All women welcome, mothers especially welcome. Babies under two welcome in all panels and breakaway sessions. If you require support with childcare for older children please contact us. We have a facilitated chill space available throughout the day for any women needing to take time out from the conference for any reason.

A wide variety of speakers make up our full program including:

Val Lunn (Women's Aid Integrated Services Nottingham) leads a discussion on "Women's services in the age of austerity".

Dr Lisa Mckenzie, Claire Meadows-Haworth and Dr Anne Brunton lead a discussion with Q&A entitled "Working Class Women in Academia".

Women may choose one breakaway session from the following options:

" 'War of The Words': Language, Social Class and Oppression in the UK", with Sonia Long

"Inequality in education", with Dr Amanda Arbouin

"The Labour Party: A lost cause for working class women or ours to reclaim for resistance", a discussion led by Labour Party activist and parliamentary candidate Chantal Lee.

Following a screening of the InsideFilm documentary "The Acting Class" is our closing session of the day which will look at working class women in the arts. This panel features contributions from playwright Emteaz Hussain and filmmaker Dr Deidre O'Neill (director of The Acting Class)

We have additional speakers to confirm and announce. Your ticket price includes refreshments throughout the day and a full lunch with vegan, vegetarian and meat based options. All attendees also have access to a chill space throughout the day facilitated by psychotherapist Jeannie Thompson if they need a safe space away from the main talks.

We are hosting a small networking and social in the evening straight after Class Matters. There is no additional charge for our evening event although donations to enable our work to continue will be most welcome.

To enable as many women as possible to access this event we are asking any women able to purchase a solidarity ticket to please do so. If you would like to add a solidarity ticket to your order please do so and let us know so it can be allocated to a woman who would otherwise be unable to attend. We also accept any donations towards this event and our work to ensure widening access is possible.

Thank you and we can't wait to see you and learn together.
