Classical Voices: Soprano & Countertenor

✨ Één avond. Twee stemmen. En een wereld vol emotie. Een concert van vocale muziek voor sopraan en countertenor.

Beleef een bijzonder concert in de intieme en sfeervolle setting van de Nicolaïkerk — een van de meest historische en tot de verbeelding sprekende kerken van Utrecht. Twee stemmen ontmoeten elkaar in een programma dat zich uitstrekt over eeuwen: van de barokke elegantie van Händel en Vivaldi tot het romantische verlangen van Duparc en Tsjaikovski, en de verstilde schoonheid van Sviridov en Dove.

Deze uitvoering vormt het slothoofdstuk van de zomertournee 2025 van het ensemble — een reeks intieme concerten in Nederland, België en Zwitserland.

Uitgevoerd door twee unieke en bekroonde solisten, ontvouwt zich een muzikaal gesprek van aria’s, duetten en liederen — een emotionele reis langs verlies, twijfel en liefde. Dit is muziek die niet schreeuwt, maar onthult. Die niet oplost, maar blijft hangen. Van Händels laatste omhelzing in Io t’abbraccio tot het breekbare wiegelied van Sviridov — elk werk wordt een tijdloos moment, gevangen in klank.

Dit concert biedt een zeldzame gelegenheid om sopraan en countertenor samen te horen in zowel barok als modern repertoire — een dialoog tussen stijlen en eeuwen. De zorgvuldig samengestelde selectie omvat religieuze werken, romantische liederen, Franse mélodies en operaparels, verbonden door de tijdloze thema’s van afscheid en verlangen.

Dit concert maakt deel uit van de serie Classical Voices van RED EVENTS & Distribution Ltd. — een creatief agentschap dat uitzonderlijke culturele evenementen organiseert in de historische landhuizen, op de daken, in de serres en op andere betoverende locaties in Europa, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Azerbeidzjan, Georgië en daarbuiten. Solisten

Gleb Zakharov is een contratenor uit Londen die laatstejaarsstudent is aan het Trinity Laban Conservatory of Music and Dance bij Patricia Rozario. Eerder studeerde hij kunstgeschiedenis aan de Lomonosov State University en combineerde dit met een actieve carrière als uitvoerend muzikant.

Gleb vervolmaakte zijn vakmanschap via studies bij professor Faltin aan de Hans Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlijn evenals privécoaching bij gerespecteerde professionals waaronder Robert Alderson, Ashley Stafford en Marcus van der Akker. Hij heeft ook deelgenomen aan masterclasses van de beroemde sopraan Ailish Tynan.

Hij zong operarollen uit “Eugenius Onegin”, “The Snow Maiden” en “The Tales” van Hoffmann evenals Oberon in scènes uit Brittens “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. In 2022 verscheen hij in “Strozzi!” als onderdeel van Trinity Labans zomeropera. Hij sloot zich ook aan bij het koor in Errollyn Wallens opera “Dido’s Ghost” en gaat in de zomer van 2025 de rol van Pisandro zingen in Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria”.

In Londen heeft hij gezongen in de Kensington United Reformed Church en deelgenomen aan liefdadigheidsconcerten ter ondersteuning van Oekraïne en de initiatieven van Greenpeace voor bescherming van de oceaan. Hij was koorstudent aan het Old Royal Naval College (2022–2023) en verschijnt regelmatig in de operaproducties van Trinity Laban.

Naast zijn zangcarrière is Gleb een toonaangevende influencer op het gebied van klassieke muziek op Instagram, waar zijn blog, @gleb.countertenor, ondertussen meer dan 30.000 volgers heeft. Zijn boeiende content, die opera en klassieke muziek toegankelijker maakt voor jongere doelgroepen, heeft geleid tot samenwerkingen met grote merken zoals Decca Classics en Marquee TV, en met gerenommeerde operazangers zoals Anita Rachvelishvili. Via zijn platform tracht hij de kloof tussen klassieke muziek en modern publiek te verkleinen, waardoor het genre relevanter en boeiender wordt in het digitale tijdperk.

Abigail Barker is een 23-jarige sopraan uit Nottingham, die momenteel laatstejaarstudent is aan het Trinity Laban Conservatory of Music and Dance, onder leiding van Patricia Rozario en Helen Yorke. Omwille van haar enorme passie voor zangkunst ontving Abigail onlangs de eerste prijs in de Trinity Laban English Song Competition samen met haar duopartner Celia Margalef Boquera, met wie ze regelmatig optreedt. Daarnaast nam ze deel als finaliste in de Elisabeth Schumann Liederfestival en Lilian Ash French Song Competition. In oktober 2022 werd ze gekozen om Trinity Laban te vertegenwoordigen bij de Junior Kathleen Ferrier Awards. Verder ontving Abigail de eerste prijs in de Liz Chant Bursary Competition van Nottingham, die vervolgens leidde tot solokansen met het Nottingham Bach Choir, waar ze Roger Quilter's “Seven Elizabethan Lyrics” en Madeline Drings “Shakespeare Songs” uitvoerde tijdens hun zomerconcert van vorig jaar. Met een bijzondere liefde voor barokmuziek nam Abigail in de zomer van 2023 deel aan Michael Chance's Summer Academy 'SienAgosto', waar ze als soliste in de Pinacoteca Nazionale di Siena mocht zingen en in prachtige kerken en kathedralen in de Contrada di Valdimontone. Naast haar studie bij Michael kreeg ze de kans om samen te werken met Lynne Dawson, Elisabeth Priday en Daniel Taylor. In de zomer van 2024 nam Abigail deel aan de Oxford International Summer Academy, opgericht door Malcolm Martineau, en werd gekozen voor de operascènes, waarbij ze optrad als Elisabetta uit Cimarosa's “Il Matrimonio Segreto” en Cobweb in Brittens “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Ze volge ook masterclasses bij gerenommeerde artiesten, waaronder Ailish Tynan, Pascal Rogé, Janis Kelly, Judith Howarth en Catherine Wyn-Rogers.

Abigail is een voormalig lid van het Old Royal Naval College Chapel Choir en trad op in een breed scala aan boeiende concerten, waaronder de uitvoering van Brahms “Ein Deutches Requiem”, in de Royal Festival Hall. Tevens zong ze met koor tijdens de viering van het Platinum Jubileum van de Engelse koningin op de BBC Songs of Praise. Ze treedt ook op met het gezelschap OperaMakers, gerund door Paneretos Kyriatzidis, en trad onlangs op in het koor voor hun concert ter ere van Internationale Vrouwendag, met de werken van Margaret Bonds, Amy Beach en Ethel Smyth.

Adelina Gansvind is concertpianiste en begeleider, gevestigd in Nederland. Ze creëert concertprogramma’s die verschillende werken met elkaar verweven op basis van thema’s zoals identiteit, vrouwelijkheid en migratie.

Haar artistieke stem is gevormd door haar studie aan het Staatsconservatorium van Kazan, masterclasses bij gerenommeerde musici zoals Lilya Zilberstein, Eliso Virsaladze en Alexey Lubimov, en aanvullende studies in performance art. Adelina nam deel aan internationale muziekfestivals en operaproducties als repetitor in Europa en andere landen.

Een van haar recente projecten was “Unheard Music” – een concert gewijd aan componisten van de tweede avant-garde, wiens werken tijdens de Sovjetperiode onofficieel verboden waren. Haar komende projecten zijn een soloprogramma rondom identiteit en migratie, en gezamenlijke concerten die vrouwelijke identiteit onderzoeken via vocale muziek. Naast haar optredens schrijft ze de blog Musician Being Human, waarin ze haar inzichten deelt over de psychologie van muziek en performance.

Join us for a concert in the intimate and atmospheric setting of Saint Nicholas Church (Nicolaïkerk), one of Utrecht’s most historic and evocative venues. Two voices come together in a programme that spans centuries — from the baroque grace of Handel and Vivaldi to the romantic longing of Duparc and Tchaikovsky and the haunting beauty of Sviridov and Dove.

This performance marks the final chapter of the ensemble’s Summer 2025 tour — a series of intimate concerts across the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

Performed by two unique award-winning soloists in a dialogue of arias, duets, and songs, the programme traces the emotional journey — through loss, questioning and love. This is music that does not shout but reveals. That does not resolve but lingers. From the final embrace in Handel’s Io t’abbraccio to the fragile lullaby of Sviridov, each piece becomes a moment suspended in time.

This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear soprano and countertenor voices intertwined in both baroque and modern repertoire — a conversation across centuries and styles. The carefully curated selection includes sacred works, romantic lieder, French mélodies, and operatic gems, all unified by the timeless themes of farewell and longing.

PERFORMERS

Soloists

Gleb Zakharov is a London based countertenor in his final year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, studying under Patricia Rozario. He previously earned a degree in History of Art from Lomonosov State University, balancing his academic studies with an active performing career.

Gleb has refined his craft through studies with Professor Faltin at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and private coaching with esteemed professionals including Robert Alderson, Ashley Stafford, and Marcus van der Akker. He has also participated in masterclasses with renowned soprano Ailish Tynan.

Gleb has sung in opera scenes from Eugene Onegin, The Snow Maiden, and The Tales of Hoffmann. Notably, he performed the role of Oberon in scenes from Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2022, he appeared in Strozzi! as part of Trinity Laban’s summer opera. He also joined the chorus in Errollyn Wallen’s opera Dido’s Ghost and will sing the role of Pisandro in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria in summer 2025.

In London, he has sung at Kensington United Reformed Church and participated in charity concerts supporting Ukraine and Greenpeace’s ocean protection initiatives. He was a choral scholar at the Old Royal Naval College (2022–2023) and regularly appears in Trinity Laban’s opera productions.

In addition to his singing career, Gleb is a leading influencer in the field of classical music on Instagram, where his blog, @gleb.countertenor, has grown to over 17,000 followers. His engaging content, which makes opera and classical music more accessible to younger audiences, has led to collaborations with major brands such as Decca Classics and Marquee TV, as well as renowned opera singers like Anita Rachvelishvili. Through his platform, he continues to bridge the gap between classical music and modern audiences, making the genre more relevant and engaging in the digital age.

Abigail Barker is a 23-year-old Nottingham born Soprano, currently in her final year of BMus Vocal Studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, under the tutelage of Patricia Rozario OBE and Helen Yorke, Vocal Coach. With a huge passion for art song, Abigail recently received the first prize in the Trinity Laban English Song Competition with her duo partner Celia Margalef Boquera, whom she regularly performs with in concert. As well as this, she has performed as a finalist in the Elisabeth Schumann Lieder and Lilian Ash French Song Competitions and was also chosen to represent Trinity Laban in the Junior Kathleen Ferrier Awards, back in October of 2022. Furthermore, Abigail received the first prize in the Liz Chant Bursary Competition, held in Nottingham, which then lead for solo opportunities with the Nottingham Bach Choir, where she performed Roger Quilter’s Seven Elizabethan Lyrics and Madeline Drings Shakespeare Songs in their summer concert of last year. She also performs with the OperaMakers company, ran by Paneretos Kyriatzidis, and most recently performed in the chorus for their concert celebrating International Womens Day, including works by Margaret Bonds, Amy Beach and Ethel Smyth.

Adelina has participated in international music festivals and opera productions as repetiteur across Europe and other countries.

One of her recent projects was “Unheard Music” — a concert dedicated to composers of the second avant-garde, whose works were unofficially banned during the period of the Soviet Union. Her next projects are solo program focused on themes of identity and migration, and collaborative concerts on female identity through vocal music. Beyond her performances, she authors the blog Musician Being Human, where she explores and shares her insights on psychology of music performance.
