Event description

Description

Mcr Classical Association presents: Dr Chris Mowat (University of Sheffield), with their talk especially for LGBTQ+ History Month: ‘Castration Envy: Queerness and the galli Priests of Cybele in Republican Rome’.

This talk will feature discussion of castration, and may therefore be unsuitable for younger children.

The talk will begin at 6pm and be followed by discussion with the Mcr Classical Association Chair, Dr April Pudsey of Manchester Metropolitan University, and informal Q&A with the audience.

All talks in our series are free and open to the public. Please join us for light refreshments from 5.30pm, when you will have opportunity to speak with members of the Mcr Classical Association, and find out more about our work promoting Classics and Ancient History around the region. We are a local charity and welcome members and anyone who wishes to be involved. Membership helps us fund a series of talks and events each year, as well as meetings for members and a regular series of children's activity workshops in Didsbury Library.
