Description

A new cancer centre for Cheshire and Merseyside

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest networked cancer centres in the UK, whose mission is to improve health and well-being through compassionate, safe and effective cancer care using techniques at the forefront of medical technology.

The Trust has embarked upon an ambitious programme to Transform Cancer Care across Merseyside and Cheshire and a key element of this is the development of a new comprehensive Cancer Centre located adjacent to the new Royal Liverpool Hospital, currently under construction. The new Centre is planned to be handed over in February 2020 with construction just started on site; it will provide the Trust’s inpatient accommodation, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for the local population as well as providing more complex cancer treatments for the Merseyside and Cheshire area.

The project also includes the retention and reconfiguration of the Trust’s existing hospitals on the Wirral, which will continue to provide a broad range of outpatient radiotherapy and chemotherapy services for the local community of Wirral and West Cheshire.

The aim of the Transforming Cancer Care project is to optimise Cancer Treatment and research in the region and the presentation will describe how the Project, through the provision of a comprehensive cancer centre, will deliver a dramatic enhancement of the patient experience and easier access to services, leading to improved clinical outcomes.

The site occupies an important location in the City of Liverpool, adjacent to the Liverpool University Campus which will represent a unique opportunity to create an iconic building to reflect the importance of the facility to the wider community it serves. The presentation will describe the design development process from the initial concept through to detail design and construction using the latest in BIM techniques including virtual reality representation.
